Entering the university is about starting an entirely different life and stepping into another world. Everything has changed, including your body clock, ways of learning, social circle. The most drastic change about my university life is living in the student residence. If you ask me to count the days that I did not go back home, I would say it is about 2 weeks. Since the start of those successive orientation camps, my life is packed with reunions with my new friends. While we get only 24 hours a day, it is a must that something is left behind. And the easiest thing to be left out is – HOME and the neighborhood.
Yes, I miss home a lot. It is said that we do not simply love a place, instead, we love what happened and people in that place. To me, Sai Ying Pun is where is belong. It is my root. All my memorable moments happened in here. I was born in a hospital here. I finished my primary and secondary education here. I spent my leisure time hanging around, having tea time with my classmates who marks significance in my life. Every time I close my eyes, the daily routine, walking down the steep road, popped out in my mind.
My secondary school, Ying Wa Girls’ School is built up on the hill in central district and surrounded by grand residence. It is a tranquil and peaceful place. As our schoolmates are rather active, the school often receive complaints from the residents living nearby. However, I believe that it add amusement to the neighborhood there. Afterschool, in order to save money, most of the schoolmates living in Western district tend to walk back home. Thus, it creates a ‘’blue sea’’ along the road downhill because of the blue school uniform.
In hillside, it is a place full of friendliness, warmth and love. I was grown up in this small community. Unlike the grand residence up on the hill where the neighbor do not know one another well, the bonding between the neighbors in my estate are very close. When we come across one another, we ask what are we doing lately like how is my academic study or what we do in this hot summer. Even though everything are changing day by day like old shops are crammed down and new shops are built in a faster and faster pace, there is still one shop which stops the time. It is a grocery store selling fresh pork, fish and cured food. When I was small, my mother treated the store as a day-care center and put me there. Then I sit on a folded chair and watch the pedestrian outside the shop. When the butcher are free, they would play with me. Though I am a grown-up now, they still always chat with me.
People cannot see things they owned in hands. But they will realize when they lost it. At this moment, I miss home and my neighborhood.
Hi Vincci, I am Grace. Here are some comment from mine.
回覆刪除I like the tone you wrote in your essay as i could feel that you really miss your home and neighborhood. It also remind me of my own neighborhood. However, it would be better if you could describe a bit more detail and concrete about your neighborhood so the readers could have a more vivid picture of the place where you live, where you study and where you grow. :):):)
Hi Vincci! Just like what Grace had said, the way you wrote this essay made me could feel you're homesick. To make it even better, you should add some more details about your neighborhood, tell us more abt what kind of shops are there, what kind of buildings are there and etc . cheers! :)

Hi Vincci, here are some comments for your essay...
回覆刪除I think there are a lot of emotion hidden in your essay which really touches my heart as I am staying in the residence too. I think you should add more sensory details to describe your neighborhood because it can make the readers feel like they are in the neighborhood with you. But overall, you have written a pretty good essay.
